12. Why are you interested in researching environmental and natural resources law, when your work has all been in virtual law?
Similar to environmental law, virtual law focuses on human activities and their effect on virtual surroundings. And key concepts like ‘commodity / commons’, ‘access to resources’, ‘network effect’, ‘system sustainability’, and ‘Self-determination and participation in decision-making’ are common to both environmental law and virtual law.
Above all, I think the two laws face the incompleteness of the World as human artifact, as Giambattista Vico (1668-1744), a Italian philoshoper, historian & jurist had put it, “ It is true that men themselves made this world of nations... but this world without doubt has issued from a mind often diverse, at times quite contrary, and always superior to the particular ends that men had proposed to themselves. ”
